There are many types of damp to be found in a given property, but perhaps the most common is penetrating damp. This can be caused through a variety of means, such as:
- Failed or non existent DPC (Damp Proof Course)
- A historical or current leak in the affected
- External leaks via cracks in render or brickwork
Penetrating damp can be tricky, as the cause source can linger for some time before problems appear, causing damage before it can be detected. These issues usually stem from a current or historical water leak. This issue can be particularly troublesome with an old chimney breasts, as the soot leaves behind salts that can retain moisture that then leaks out into the brickwork.
